Yellowstone Backcountry Pack Trips

We’ll happily trade crowds and fireworks for the unique experience of spending a week in a newly opened Bear Management Area in the backcountry of Yellowstone. The Pelican and Lamar Valleys are home to the Mollie and Druid Wolf Packs, respectively. Elk, bison, moose and grizzly bears also reside in this region. We will be the first group of the season allowed in this management area! Add fly fishing and great day rides from camp for a perfect trip in Yellowstone’s backcountry. Come celebrate the independence of the United States in her first National Park.

Join us on this four day pack trip as the waters clear and the current slows down from the spring run-off. Experts and novices alike will appreciate the great fly fishing opportunity for wild cutthroat trout this trip offers. Recently we have generated a good deal of interest from return fishermen requesting a four day trip dedicated to fly fishing. This is for you! We hope you will book this trip early.

The Mirror Plateau, located above the Lamar River, is one of Yellowstone’s true wilderness areas. The Mirror Plateau is summer range to vast herds of elk and bison and their predators as well; namely the Druid and Mollie Wolf Packs and grizzly bears. As part of a Bear Management Program, access is very limited in this area. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity, the Mirror Plateau pack trip continues to be our most popular excursion with great interest already generated for the 2010 season.

If you want to see some spectacular wildlife and scenery in Yellowstone, join us on this pack trip. Moose, bear and elk all inhabit this unique Northwest corner of Yellowstone Park. High mountain passes, (used by the Native Americans) treat you to unbelievable vistas of Yellowstone. The backcountry of Yellowstone contains many historic trails used by the Native Americans, trappers, and prospectors. Join us for an in-depth look at the history of the area, and research trails used in the Lamar River area by the early people and explorers of what is now Yellowstone National Park. We are excited to offer a unique trip that combines our love of riding with our historical knowledge of the area. We think this trip will interest others who share our passion for history and our desire to know more about our native past.

The Thorofare pack trip travels into the most "remote" area in the lower 48 states. Trails traveled are much the same as those in "times gone by" when the mountain men and Native Americans traveled this area. This pack trip is for those who want a true "wilderness expedition". We will spend 9 days on the trail, using 5 unique campsites and travel over 85 miles. Highlights include spectacular fly fishing, majestic views of the surrounding mountain ranges, and grand vistas from the Lake. Wolves, bears, elk and moose are waiting to be spotted. This trip was featured in the "Outside" magazine 2006. Join us for a true backcountry adventure.

Pack trip locations are subject to change (if campsites cannot be reserved or Park Service closes the camp). In the event of a change, we will make every effort to plan a very similar pack trip.

Payment and Deposit Information

We accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards. We also accept checks.
Reservations are confirmed upon receipt of deposit.
Please remember that deposits are nonrefundable, as we work on a very limited season.
Final payment for pack trips is due two weeks prior to trip.
